You’re in a great part of the world here are some interesting things to do whilst staying at Tides.
De Hoep Nature Reserve
This spectacular reserve is 18 kms from Tides and makes an excellent day trip. De Hoop offers 34,000 hectares of nature reserve and fynbos and a protected marine reserve along 75km of pristine coastline. It’s a favourite destination for hikers, cyclists, bird watchers and during winter and early summer months, whale watchers. Also found are Cape Mountain Zebra, Eland, Bontebok and various other species of wildlife.
Witsand, Infanta and the Mouth of the Breede River
The mouth of the Breede River is an hour by boat and 20 minutes by car. To the west of the mouth is Cape Infanta and to the east is Witsands. The Breede River Mouth is amongst the world’s top kitsurfing locations and a breeding ground for southern right whales.
The Boathouse Pub
Just ten minutes from Tides the Boathouse Pub is right on the water and serves great Pizzas. Go by boat and stop for a sundowner. Lots of locals gather there on Friday night.

The Bush Pub
A local institution, the Bush Pub has been going for years. Its 25 minutes from Tides, and is full of atmosphere and lots of talk about ‘the one that got away’. There’s a play area for kids,so parents can relax.

The Pont at Malgas
Malgas has the last hand-operated ‘pont’ (ferry) in the country, a vital link between the east and west bank communities. Take a trip across then explore the other side of the river. Its a one off and worth the trip.
