About Tides Lodge

Tides River Lodge lies on the banks of the Breede River, near Malgas, in the Cape. A short, scenic two and a half hour trip from Cape Town and only half an hour from Swellendam on the way to the Garden Route.

Tides is an oasis in the dry wheatlands of the Overberg, an “off the beaten track” destination for those who enjoy something different. Tides Lodge is located in a sheltered cove with an island directly in front of the property. Tides is without doubt one of the most unique and pristine locations on the Breede River. Next door to Malgas, Tides Lodge offers something for everyone and the activities available range from relaxing in a deck chair and enjoying the peaceful tranquility of the Breede River to traversing the challenging 4X4 trails of the Overberg.

  • A relaxing getaway - far from the madding crowd

Just spent a really enjoyable weekend at The Tides. Beautiful lush lawns rolling down to the river - such a peaceful spot. The trip over the river on the pont was enjoyed by everyone - not something one does everyday! Andre was extremely accommodating and helped make us feel at home immediately. Would recommend a trip to The Tides for anyone who is keen to get away from it all.

  • So beautiful and peaceful

We had a lovely weekend away. Amazing accommodation with great facilities, an unbelievable view and friendly management. A bonus was the cute furr kids (Monty and Milo - the bulldog and Jack Russel) who are very welcoming hosts too! We will definitely be back!

  • Beautiful spot We met as a family of 7 adults and 3 kids for the weekend on the 4th of June. We were all blown away with the beauty of the location. The lodge itself was fantastic and very luxurious and rustic. Andre and his team could not have been more helpful. I would recommend Tides Lodge to anyone. I will hopefully be back!! -Stayed June 2016, travelled with family

  • awesome!

Beautiful view from zebra lodge and beautiful setting! The children loved playing in the mud and puddles at low tide! Everything was very convenient and the house is just beautiful. Our sons didnt want to leave! We'll definately be back with family and friends.

  • Wonderful place at the Breede River

We (my wife, our son 15 years old and myself enjoyed our time at tides very much. Wonderful and romantic location, beautiful view, interesting birds, de Hoop Nature Reserve is just 40 Minutes drive away. The cottage (we were staying an the Cob Cottage) offers everything you need (however no catering provided), Andre, the host, ist very helpful. A shop is 5 minutes drive away where one finds a (limited) selection of food (and a larger variety of wines etc.). We hope to come back in the future. - Stayed October 2016, travelled with family

  • We decided to spend a night at Tides, taking a friend who had been in hospital with us. The booking was extended to two nights, then three, and we are so glad that we did this. Cob Cottage was an excellent choice, situated towards the edge of the property, so quiet and peaceful, with just the waterfowl to listen to. No television is provided, which makes it even more special. The cottage is extremely comfortable, and equipped with everything one needs for a self cateing visit. We always take our safari box with us when we travel, but really did not need to this time. The downstairs living area is spacious and opens out on to a patio with a built in braai and a bench for warm evenings. We were impressed to see that the braai had already been cleaned up the morning after we used it. Andre, his wife Maggie and smiling Malawian staff keep the whole place immaculate, the vast lawns are such a pleasure to walk on, to wander over and sit on a bench to watch the river and absorb the tranquility of the surroundings. We would wholeheartedly recommend Tides for a visit, be it short or long. You will be glad that you did, and come away with the same feelings that we did. Thank you Andre, Maggie and staff – not forgetting Milo and Monte, your friendly dogs.
